OEM Diagnostics & Alarm Code Reset in Miami

Yamaha YDIS, Mercury CDS G3, Suzuki SDS, Honda HDS dealer-level engine diagnostics

Miami OEM Diagnostic Specialists

An alarm code that wont reset is not solved by unhooking the battery. Modern outboard ECMs log fault data even when the engine is off, and they need dealer-level diagnostic software to properly read, clear, and reprogram. We carry the OEM diagnostic tools for every major outboard brand plus MerCruiser and Volvo Penta sterndrive systems.

OEM Diagnostics & Alarm Codes service

OEM Diagnostic Software We Use

  • Yamaha YDIS (Yamaha Diagnostic System): Full access to ECM data on all Yamaha 4-stroke outboards including HPDI 2-strokes. Live sensor data, fault code reading, module programming.
  • Mercury CDS G3 (Computer Diagnostic System): Current-generation Mercury diagnostic for Verado, FourStroke, and OptiMax engines. Live data, fault codes, SmartCraft network diagnostics.
  • Suzuki SDS (Suzuki Diagnostic System): Full diagnostic for Suzuki DF-series 4-stroke outboards.
  • Honda HDS (Honda Diagnostic System): ECM diagnostics for Honda BF-series outboards.
  • Mercury MerCruiser DDT / Mercury MerCathode diagnostic: For sterndrive ECM work.
  • Volvo Penta VODIA: Dealer diagnostic for EVC, IPS, and Glass Cockpit systems.

What OEM Diagnostics Actually Do

Generic scan tools (the cheap OBD-style readers) give you maybe 20% of what the ECM knows. Dealer software gives you the other 80%, including:

  • Live sensor readings during engine run
  • Historical fault codes with timestamp and engine conditions at the fault
  • Freeze-frame data from when the alarm triggered
  • Actuator tests (can command injectors, coils, solenoids individually)
  • Sensor calibration
  • Module programming and firmware updates
  • Trim and throttle body position learning
  • Network communication diagnostics (SmartCraft, NMEA 2000, CAN)

Alarm Code Reset

Many alarm codes wont clear by disconnecting the battery. The ECM retains fault data in non-volatile memory. After the underlying problem is fixed, dealer software is required to properly clear the code and reset the alarm. Common alarm codes we handle:

  • Overheat alarm (impeller, sensor, or actual overheat)
  • Oil pressure alarm
  • Check engine / ECM fault
  • Water in fuel alarm
  • Low voltage alarm
  • Knock sensor faults
  • Cam/crank position sensor faults
  • Throttle position sensor faults

Module Programming & Firmware Updates

Modern outboards get firmware updates periodically. Sometimes to fix performance bugs, sometimes for emissions compliance, occasionally for cold-start or warm-up behavior tweaks. We pull current firmware version and update if a newer version exists. Required after ECM replacement.

Pre-Purchase Diagnostic

Buying a used outboard-powered boat? We can run a full OEM diagnostic as part of a pre-purchase boat inspection. The ECM history reveals how the engine was used, any past faults, hours run at WOT, and whether the engine has been over-revved or run with known faults. This is info the seller may not even have. Worth every penny on any used purchase.

Know the Signs

When You Need OEM Diagnostics

Alarm or check engine light wont clear

Intermittent engine problems without obvious cause

Recent ECM or sensor replacement needs calibration

Considering a used boat purchase

Multiple shops have failed to diagnose a problem

Engine behavior changed after an electrical issue

Need firmware update for warranty or performance

SmartCraft, EVC, or network error codes

Our Process

Our Diagnostic Process

1

Connect & Read

Hook up OEM diagnostic laptop and cable. Pull current and historical fault codes with freeze-frame data.

2

Live Data Analysis

Run the engine under conditions that trigger the fault. Watch live sensor data during the fault event.

3

Root Cause

Identify whether fault is sensor, wiring, mechanical, or ECM issue. Explain the finding clearly.

4

Repair & Reset

Repair root cause, clear the code with OEM software, and verify clean run.
