Boat Trailer Repair in Miami
Wheel bearings, brakes, lights, axles, winches, tires, and frame service for aluminum and galvanized boat trailers
Miami Boat Trailer Specialists
Miami is tough on boat trailers. Saltwater dunkings rust steel frames from the inside out, heat accelerates bearing grease breakdown, and humidity turns LED light connections into corrosion-fests. We service and repair boat trailers so yours does not fail halfway back from the ramp.
Wheel Bearing Service
Wheel bearings are the single most common boat trailer failure. Hot wheels after a drive, grinding noises, or grease leaking from the hub all mean bearings are on their way out. We perform:
- Bearing inspection and repack
- Complete bearing replacement (inner, outer, race, seal)
- Bearing Buddy and spring-loaded dust cap service
- Hub replacement on severely damaged hubs
- Brake drum or rotor service combined with bearing work
Miami saltwater bearings should be repacked or replaced annually at minimum. Boats that dunk at hot ramps benefit from full bearing replacement every 2 years.
Brake Service
We service both common trailer brake types:
- Surge brakes: Hydraulic brakes that engage when the trailer pushes on the tow vehicle. We service actuators, master cylinders, brake lines, drum or disc brake hardware, and reverse lockout solenoids.
- Electric brakes: Controller-activated brakes common on larger trailers. We service controllers, magnets, brake shoes, and wiring.
- Electric-over-hydraulic: Higher-end systems combining electric control with hydraulic actuation. We service the full stack.
Lights & Wiring
Saltwater and trailer lights do not mix. Incandescent bulbs corrode in months. We convert most trailers to LED lights with waterproof connectors, submersible or sealed housings, and proper ground routing. Clean, corrosion-resistant wiring is the single biggest upgrade most old boat trailers need.
Axle & Frame Work
Bent axles, cracked welds, and rusted-through frame rails are not uncommon on older Miami trailers. Shop jobs include:
- Axle replacement (straight axle, torsion axle, or flex axle)
- Spring and bushing replacement
- Frame rail cutting and welding
- Crossmember and fender bracket replacement
- Bunks, rollers, and bolster replacement
- Powder-coat or re-galvanize on full restorations
Winches, Straps & Couplers
Winch strap wear, winch motor failure, and coupler ball wear are all common. We service hand-crank and electric winches, replace winch straps, and swap out ball couplers, hitch pins, and safety chains as needed.
Tires
Boat trailer tires dry-rot faster than they wear out in Miami. UV and heat break down sidewalls in 4-5 years regardless of mileage. We check DOT date codes during every service and recommend replacement when tires are 5+ years old. Radial trailer-rated ST tires are the correct tire for most boat trailers.
Pre-Season Inspection
If the boat comes off the trailer for summer storage or hurricane haul-out, inspect the trailer before putting the boat back on it. Bearings, lights, tires, and brakes all deserve attention before a first-of-season tow. Call us to schedule a pre-season service.
